3D laser scans reveal Stonehenge secrets

Stonehenge

Stonehenge was designed as a venue for dazzling light displays according to new 3D images of the ancient stones.
Historians believe that thousands of years ago people used Stonehenge to worship the sun so these latest developments are very exciting.
The scans show images had been engraved on the stones and some of the slabs were specially smoothed to creating a dramatic effect when the sun rose in the morning or set at night.
Stonemasons used the best materials where they knew the sunlight would hit the stones, so that they would glisten at certain times of day.
The super-detailed scans even show that some Georgian and Victorian visitors to the Wiltshire site have graffitied on the stones. Cheeky!
