On the 26th April 1962 the first US rocket lands on Moon.
It was the Ranger IV that landed on the far side of the Moon. The main aim of the mission was to take television pictures of the lunar surface. Unfortunately it failed to send them back because of a technical fault.
It was the first time an American spacecraft successfully reached the Moon - the Russians achieved the first ever lunar impact in 1959.

The Ranger rockets marked a new phase in space exploration and were a significant part of America's attempt to be the first to put a man on the Moon what would happen in 1969 with Apollo 11 crewed by commander Neil Armstrong, helped by Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin who, together with Neil Armstrong became the 2 first men walking on the Moon.
