British surfer rides massive wave

Another huge wave in Nazaré-Portugal and a British man thinks he may have broken the record for the biggest wave ever surfed.

Andrew Cotton rode an enormous wave at surfing hotspot Praia do Norte in Nazaré- Portugal on Sunday.

The wave is thought to be over 24 metres tall which could make it the highest wave ever ridden.

We won't know for sure until surf company Billabong officially measure the wave in May.

         The Nazaré Canyon , unique in the world, provides the lovers of surf these enormous waves excellent to break records.The first one of  was Garrett MacNamara an American who loves this part of Portugal where he spends part of  his live and where people admire him because of his courage as well as for getting people to know Portugal and Nazaré, a small town by the sea with lots of interesting places to visit, awesome  landscape with cliffs and beaches and some interesting legends of  brave knights.

           From  the "Sítio" you can admire the sea, visit a small chapel right on the place where a Knight "D. Fuas Roupinho" was said to be chasing a deer and was saved by Mary, mother of Christ whom he cried for help on the moment his horse almost fall from the cliff into the sea. This legend comes from the 12th century, 1182 more precisely and is still the' Ex Libris' of Nazaré. Very typical clothes, like fishermen's jumpers, coats and socks, as well as pottery and other souvenirs can also be found and purchased in Nazaré. Sea food, the 'percebes', so tasty with a cold beer and other delicacies from the sea make Nazaré an interesting destiny for tourists, especially in Summer.

The women from Nazaré, traditionally wear 7 skirts and earn their living selling the fish their brave husbands catch in a very dangerous sea, especially in Winter. They usually help them on the beach,pulling the boats to shore. They spend a lot of time preying while their husbands are on the sea and go to the beach to wait for them.
