The follow-up to The Da Vinci Code sold more than 140,000 copies in its first week, setting a new benchmark according to industry magazine The Bookseller.
Brown's latest novel beat the record set by its predecessor in 2005, adding on some 16,000 sales.
The Lost Symbol topped the Christmas book charts ahead of the 2010 Guinness World of Records.
When the hardback edition hit the bookshelves in September, it sold more than any other hardback in its first 36 hours on sale.
US novelist Brown has sold £78.5m worth of books since the publication of Angels and Demons in 2001, added The Bookseller.
