CITY LIFE

Shanghai (上海 Shànghǎi), with a population of more than 18 million (and over 5.8 million migrants), is one of the most populous and most developed cities in the People's Republic of China.

Shanghai was the largest and most prosperous city in the Far East during the 1930s, and remained the most developed city in Communist China. In the 1990s Shanghai again became an attractive spot for tourists worldwide.

Due to rapid industrial and economic development, as well as lax governmental environment policies, Shanghai has recently been ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world. Individuals with asthma or respiratory issues should be prepared when visiting the city.'Smog' is one of the problems faced by the inhabitants of this large and busy city in China. Expo 2010 is another reason to improve the quality of life in Shanghai which has a considerable number of gardens and parks to give the city a certain balance regarding the quality of the air. It's no doubt a lively and developed city on the Far East!

Portugal: Miranda donkeys near extinction

   
 

Donkeys are no longer of any use in agriculture. They have been replaced by tractors and machines. Now the donkeys of Miranda have a new chance to survive: in tourism.

Their home is the utmost northeast of Portugal. Soon people may say that was where they used to live. To delay the decline of the donkey, local residents are trying to find "jobs" for them in the tourism industry.

Ireland is at Expo 2010 in Shanghai

The Irish Pavilion  at  Shanghai Expo 2010

The Irish Pavilion will be built across gentle inclines and will have five enclosed galleries, covering more than 1,500 square meters of exhibition space. 

 It will engage visitors in an entertaining and informative interaction on the theme

'Better City, Better Life’.

The architecture of the translucent lantern-like Ireland Pavilion at Expo 2010 is intended to symbolize the relationship between urban and rural, manmade and natural. The exhibition inside sets the creativity of the Irish, their ancient history, vibrant modern culture, educational traditions and technical innovation into the context of a small, but surprisingly varied and beautiful, island. Visitors will be surprised to discover a cultural continuity that goes back to the Stone Age, whilst enjoying a whole range of contemporary audiovisuals, exhibits, displays, readings, music and performances.

The storms forced road closures, ripped up trees and flattened homes.

Department of emergency management spokesman Jerry Lojka said two people died in Oklahoma City and three were killed in Cleveland County.

Cycling paramedic begins trial in Salisbury (England)

The bike is equipped with much of the kit usually carried by ambulances

A paramedic in Salisbury has started to use a bicycle as part of a trial to get to emergencies quicker in built-up or crowded areas.

Pete Barrow will be equipped with much of the usual medical kit carried by ambulances, including a defibrillator.

He will be deployed in city and towns and large events where it is difficult for ambulance vehicles to access.

Nelson Mandela -The 1st black South African President

10th May 1994 : Mandela becomes the first SA's black president

Nelson Mandela becomes South Africa's first black president on the 10th May 1994, after more than three centuries of white rule.

 Nelson Mandela is a fighter for freedom  and the Human rights, as he had been in prison for about 25 years, during the apartheid government. He was the president of the ANC, African National Congress, the party which has governed South Africa for the last years.
Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 on behalf of all South Africans who suffered and sacrificed so much to bring peace to their land.
